The TransportTech project, funded by the Hedorfs Foundation and FDE Foundation, will uncover implementation of Industry 4.0 technology in the Danish freight transportation sector.
Although Danish freight transport is among the world's elite, it is faced with increasing demands for sustainability, increasing global competition and pressure on the bottom line. On top of this, Danish freight transport companies are facing a near future with technological quantum leaps. The ambition of the TransportTech project, which is financed by a grant of 3 million DKK from the Hedorfs Foundation and a grant of 700,000 DKK from the FDE Foundation, is to kickstart the implementation of digitalization technologies in a number of specific companies in order to simultaneously monitor the implementation of the technology very closely.
The project extends over a little over three years from 2023 to 2026 and is anchored in the Production, Transportation and Planning section, but also has participation from Energy Technology and Computer Science and Innovation Processes and Entrepreneurship sections. The grant was awarded to the department based on an application by Samuel Brüning Larsen and also includes a PhD project within technology implementation and freight transport.
During the project, the participating companies will receive impartial sparring from DTU Engineering Technology with a view to uncovering the possibilities for technology use and solutions that can improve processes and performance and provide the companies with an economic incentive. The companies will then choose one or more specific solutions, which will be implemented in collaboration with a supplier. These processes will collectively form the data basis for uncovering how and in what form Industry 4.0 technology can best be implemented within this specific sector.
