Industry and application-oriented, interdisciplinary and innovate—those are the keywords for DTU’s BEng programmes. Based on the needs of the business sector, the programmes have a research-oriented as well as a practice-oriented approach. This ensures that the students obtain a competitive education, and that businesses will be able to hire engineers possessing up-to-date qualifications.

BEng students encounter real-life cases from companies in both lecture-based teaching, laboratory teaching, and in project and internship periods. Each BEng programme includes a six-month internship in a company within a chosen field, where students work on a specific project.

Graduates are highly sought after by employers and often have job offers in hand even before completing their final projects.

Our Courses

DTU Engineering Technology offers several of the courses that are part of DTU's BEng programmes.

The Bachelor of Engineering, BEng, is a 3½-year programme which includes a six-month internship in a Danish or an international company. Please note that all DTU's BEng programmes are taught exclusively in Danish. As the programme is taught in Danish all applicants that apply on the basis of an international upper secondary exam have to pass “Studieprøven i dansk” or “dansk A”. This requirement does not apply to applicants from the Nordic countries.

During the first two years, students follow a set syllabus where they learn to work with all problem-solving phases—from defining the idea for a product, through its production to holding the final product in your hands. Later, students immerse themselves in their particular field of interest by choosing from among DTU’s portfolio of exciting electives.

Innovation Pilot Course

DTU has one of the most well-developed ecosystems for innovation and entrepreneurship among technical universities in Europe. This ecosystems helps bringing new ideas and inventions from the classrooms and research laboratories at DTU into the real world, where they can create new jobs and help solve tasks and challenges in society. At DTU, we want everyone taking a BEng degree to train competences in innovation and learn to take an interdisciplinary approachwhich is why the 13-week Innovation Pilot course is mandatory on all study programmes during the fifth and sixth semesters of the BEng programme. The Innovation Pilot course is run by DTU Engineering Technology staff.

Hub for Start Ups

On campus, we also have a innovation and start-up hub with office spaces and facilities for entrepreneurial students and their newly established companies. The student start-up hub at Ballerup Campus is tailored for BEing students who are in the process of establishing or have already established a company. In the hub, you find office spaces, meeting rooms, a kitchen, and a common lounge area for knowledge sharing and events. The hub is an integral part of the teaching activities at the department and contributes to the vibrant and dynamic innovation and study environment at DTU. The area is located in the S-section just inside entrance 19. There are 4 enclosed offices and 3 rooms with partitions. The hub is coordinated by Associate Professor Torben Hede, DTU Engineering Technology.
