Micogrid Energy Management Systems for Sustainable and Reliable Operation

Guest Lecture by Dr. Yeliz Yoldas, Kayseri University, Turkey

Guest Lecture Yeliz Yoldas

The modern world is facing an immediate crisis of unsustainable energy due to increasing global energy demand, depleting primary energy sources, and aging conventional transmission grids. Coupled with the dire consequences of climate change, this crisis emphasizes the need for innovation in traditional grid structures. Microgrid technology emerges as a compelling solution, providing the flexibility to connect and disconnect from the grid as necessary. Microgrids offer improved reliability, reduced investment costs, emission reductions, enhanced power quality, and minimized distribution losses. However, integrating renewable energy sources into power systems can make these already complicated systems even more complex. In turn, managing power systems, including distributed energy resources, becomes a significant challenge. Therefore, the implementation of an effective energy management system is essential for the success of such complicated power systems. This guest lecture focuses on the energy management of microgrids, aiming to optimize the interplay among conventional energy resources, renewable energy sources, energy storage systems, and consumers.
