Rebecca Futtrup Gantriis will defend her PhD Thesis "Exploring the Gestalt: Task Constitution at the Intermediate Care Interface between Temporary Stays and Hospitals in Denmark" Monday October 5 at 1 pm i the Glass Hall, entrance 19 at DTU Ballerup Campus.
Temporary Stays (midlertidige døgnophold) play an important role between hospitals and municipal healthcare services, particularly as demographic changes increase the need for integration across the healthcare system. However, differences in organisation, responsibilities and professional practices can make continuity of care challenging.
This PhD thesis investigates the role and organisation of Temporary Stays and how tasks are constituted at the interface with hospitals. Drawing on register data, interviews, observations, and workshops across 18 Temporary Stays and multiple hospital units, it shows how responsibilities and patient trajectories are shaped through the interaction between policy, organisational structures and everyday practice.
The findings highlight an elastic interface characterised by varied local conditions, informal coordination and asymmetrical authority in task definition, providing important insights for organising shared work across Denmark’s evolving healthcare system.
