Site Visits and Bike Excursions
On Tuesday and Wednesday each group does the trips and visits that the group has agreed on Monday. We have rented bicycles, so there are enough for half of the groups.
That is:
The green groups (group A1-A7) and the blue groups (group B1-B7) have bicycles on Tuesday. The yellow groups (group C1-C7) and the red groups (group D1-D7) walk or use public transport, i.e. bus, train and metro, on Tuesday.
On Wednesday you switch: The green groups (group A1-A7) and the blue groups (group B1-B7) walk or use public transport on Wednesday, and the yellow groups (group C1-C7) and the red groups (group D1-D7) have bicycles on Wednesday.

Groups and Hosts
28 student groups are formed for the IPW (and some staff groups as well). The groups consist of 7-8 persons. Each group has one or more Danish students who will be your hosts during the week.
The idea is that each group sticks together during the day of cycling, and that the group decides for itself how fast you want to proceed, where you want to stop, and what you want to look at.
Schedule and Time Frames
All the tours begin and end at Danhostel City. Basically, you have the whole day at your disposal, and only a few fixed times are set: the starting time where you get your bike and helmet, the finish time where you must hand in your bike, and the starting times for the (few) visits at the Light Rail Control and Maintenance Center. The scheduled fixed times are listed on this page.
Info
We have collected several points of interest. The figures refer to the descriptions in the Sites section. The texts are mainly taken from various official websites.
Cycling
Experience the City of Cyclists as a cyclist, experience traffic and many interesting places on a whole day cycle tour in small groups with local guides. Cycling is a natural part of life in Denmark, and so it is in the IPW. For a whole day, you will travel to and from your site visits by bike.
Cycling is a beautiful way of getting to know Copenhagen. However, we would like to make a few points:
- Locks - keep your bike locked whenever you leave it. Unfortunately, many bikes disappear every day in Copenhagen.
- Helmets - together with your bike, we have rented a helmet for you. Use it. We do not want any of you to be seriously injured if an accident should occur.
- Rain - from time to time, it may be raining in Denmark in April. Please consider that when you pack.
- Food and drink - Yes. There is time for it. Cheapest and easiest is to bring the lunch pack from the hostel. In addition, you will easily find places to buy something.
- Traffic rules - cycling in Denmark is relatively straightforward. We have right-hand driving. And left turns are taken in two steps: First, you proceed at the right hand side of the road to the opposite corner, and second, you turn left when the traffic allows it (at signalized intersections many people wait for the traffic lights to change to green in their “new” direction, but you don’t have to do that).
- Accidents - be careful and take your time. However, if something happens, make sure that you get help (call 112) and inform us.
Finally
- Safety Gear – We did not succeed in getting a lot of construction site visits for you. So you will not need safety gear, except for the visit at the Light Rail, where you need to bring a safety vest.
Enjoy!
