About DTU Engineering Technology

DTU Engineering Technology is a department at Technical University of Denmark.

DTU Engineering Technology helps to realize DTU’s ambition of offering Europe’s best BEng programme and life long learning. Educating BEng students and professionals with special, sought-after practical and vocational competences is key to everything we do.

Engineering Technology is the term used internationally for this highly practice-oriented field within engineering education and research.

Implementation and innovation of technology are central to DTU’s work and to the University’s benefit to society. DTU Engineering Technology contributes to this part of DTU’s work through its focus on the practical application of the research and innovative solutions developed at the University.

DTU Engineering Technology actively works with technology implementation and engineering companies at both student and employee level. 

DTU Engineering Technology focuses on providing education based on the classical disciplines of engineering linked to the newest technology. We incorporate real-life challenges in the courses in order to increase the innovative capacities of the students, expose the students to external companies, and provide such companies with new solutions. Hence, DTU Engineering Technology is a driver in respect to collaborations between students and small and medium sized companies.

DTU Engineering Technology has a strong track record in university-industry collaboration on both faculty and student level. Based on DTU’s Ballerup Campus with state-of-the art labs and workshops for student innovation and collaboration, DTU Engineering Technology is a driver in collaborations between students, faculty, and small and medium-sized companies. With approximately 500 graduation projects and 500 student internships with industry per year, our hands-on approach to technology transfer and solving real-life industry challenges is an important part of our approach and DNA.


Ballerup Campus
DTU Ballerup Campus provides dedicated facilities for hands-on laboratory teaching, integrated projects with lecturers on development and prototyping, as well as development projects with SMEs. The integration of laboratory exercises, project work, and experiments in theoretical teaching is one of the signatures of the BEng programme based on CDIO. The laboratory facilities provide an environment for students to test theories in practice and achieve deep learning. In addition, the labs provide a framework for collaborations with companies for both students and faculty.
